1. 整骨院への通院に「医師の許可」は法的に不要です

We often receive inquiries like this from patients who have been in traffic accidents:
“The insurance adjuster told me, ‘If you want to go to an osteopathic clinic, you need to get permission from an orthopedic doctor first…’”
“I find it hard to bring it up with my doctor, so I’m putting up with the pain instead of getting treatment at an osteopathic clinic…”
I imagine it must be truly difficult to worry about the paperwork for your treatment during the anxious period immediately following an accident.
Today, I will explain the “legal facts” you should know regarding treatment and rehabilitation after a traffic accident, as well as the system in place to help you focus on your recovery with peace of mind.
1. “Doctor’s Permission” Is Not Legally Required to Visit an Osteopathic Clinic
To put it simply, in the context of a traffic accident, “doctor’s permission (consent)” is not legally required at all to visit an osteopathic clinic (licensed by a Judo Therapist) and receive treatment.

Under Compulsory Automobile Liability Insurance (the Automobile Damage Compensation Assurance Act), treatment costs provided by licensed Judo therapists—who hold a national qualification—are officially recognized as “necessary and reasonable expenses” and are eligible for compensation. 3. Please Note the Difference Between a “Diagnosis” and “Permission”
To report the incident to the police as a personal injury accident and legally prove the causal relationship between the accident and your injury, a “medical certificate” issued by a physician is absolutely necessary.
What is required is a “medical diagnosis” to confirm the condition of your injury, not “permission to visit an osteopathic clinic.” At our clinic, we strongly recommend “concurrent treatment” (combined medical care) in collaboration with an orthopedic surgeon.
